Baby Boomers Are Choosing More Plastic Surgery

The Baby Boomer generation is defined as the children born after World War II from the years 1946 to 1964. As the Baby Boomers get older more they are trying to hold on to their youthful looks more than ever. More mature men and women are actually helping to raise up the number of plastic surgeries performed every year. The population of the US is getting more mature but unlike previous generations, this generation has placed a much more serious value on looking good.

There are many of different factors behind the increase in the acceptance of plastic surgery. Reality cosmetic surgeon television shows compete with dramatic programs featuring sexy cosmetic surgeons helping all sorts of equally wealthy people. Plastic surgery is more accepted now. Many people are saying in the work place longer than they used to and those older people want to look as good as their more youthful office mates and co-workers. In fact, some studies have shown that better looking people actually make more money than their less attractive counterparts.

People from this older generation have a healthy diet, they exercise regularly and they want to look as youthful as they still feel. They are the first group of people to grow up with a real emphasis on healthy living. Plastic surgery can make a person’s exterior body look as good as they may feel on the inside. While many young people turn to plastic surgery to attract a love interest some older people use cosmetic surgery to simply turn back the clock a few years and feel better about themselves.

Skin and surface procedures such as microlaser skin peels, Botox applications, and skin smoothing gels are often the first cosmetic surgical procedures tried. Many of the more commonly performed procedures are meant to improve the skin, especially after years of growing up without sun block. The most common cosmetic surgery request by far is the application of Botox to smooth out wrinkles.

Most people think of cosmetic surgery as something that is more attractive to women, but that is not always the situation. It’s true that many older women are opting so-called “mommy make-overs” which usually is comprised of breast enhancement, a breast raising and a stomach tuck. Men often opt for surgical procedures such as eyelid lifts, face smoothing and other operations that make them look more youthful at the office. As you can see it is not only women who are seeing the local cosmetic surgeon.

The expanding Baby Boomer population is more health conscious and more interested hanging on to their natural health for as long as possible. As more older people continue to search for ways to look younger there will be more cosmetic surgeons there to serve them. Plastic surgery isn’t just for the youthful anymore – it’s now a great way for Baby Boomers to feel good about themselves.
