I’ll hit on two basic points here, but first I want you to know that most of the time, credit repair takes patience–usually a minimum of 30 to 100 days. It all depends on what needs to be fixed. This is important for you depending on what you’re trying to accomplish. If you’re looking to buy a home soon or a car, be sure to get started now. Better credit in a mortgage situation means lower payments for 30 years. That’s a lot of savings.

Credit repair fix number one, sending your dispute letters.

This tactic involves more than just mailing a dispute letter challenging the validity of a collection. Credit reporting companies have, at times, many addresses that you can find on a good credit repair manual. When you send dispute letters you are not required to send it to any specific address. Mailing the letter to different locations increases your chances of the letter taking much longer to get to the proper department. Mail it certified mail with return receipt requested. When someone signs for its delivery you have proof or receipt. It’s not your problem how long it takes to get to the right hands.

Fix number 2: Re-age your debts

This is a very common violation that leads to many accounts being removed. The basic idea is that your creditor, lets say Capital One, reported you late on March, 1, 2009 and a collection agency took the account on September 1, 2009 and reported the same account with a new date of September 1, 2009. The violation happens when the same debt is reported as a new current default on credit. By law they have to use the same date. Reason being that if they report 6 months later than it originally happened they are affecting you credit for an additional 6 months, which is a violation or your rights.
