Tough Interview Questions- And Some Tips To Help You Answer

Interviewers sometimes pride themselves on being the toughest interrogators on the planet. Prepare to face the most difficult of questions and you will breeze through the interview. Fail to get the planning process completed thoroughly and you will end up in difficulties. In the end its up to you. I would practice the answers to these difficult questions and you need fear nothing

Tell me a little bit about yourself. An old question but one designed to start to open you up. Find out if they want to know about your career or you as a person- try and keep control of the interview if possible. If you can’t bring yourself to ask for clarification, start talking about your recent achievements in a job role appropriate to the company that you are sitting in front of. Be prepared to answer this one- it’s almost certain that you’ll get asked this

What interests you about this particular role? Make sure that you focus on what you can deliver for them. Not just a good tip in answering this question alone- show what you have done for people in the past, i.e. achieved and more importantly how much that potentially means for the new company

Tell me honestly about the last company you worked for. This is a massive problem waiting to happen. They are watching out for any sign of negativity on your behalf that will lead them to find out why you left them. Always speak positively about all the companies that you worked for in the past. They paid your wages didn’t they? Any sign of negativity in this answer will have the interviewer believing that you will bad mouth every company that you work for.

How much money are you looking for? Pretty straight forward answer to this one. Ask them what sort of money that they were looking to pay. What budget figure did you have in mind is another useful response. As a general rule, avoid bringing up money yourself. In this case, they started the discussion. Stay positive, they are interested in you or they wouldn’t ask

Do you always have to tell the truth in business? What a great question- the answer is that of course you do. They are trying to see if you will lie. At times, you cannot tell everyone the full story- for example if the company is considering redundancies, however, you never have to lie. I would never work for anyone who forced me to lie, period

What would you say is your worst characteristic? Be very cautious- it’s an obvious trap and one that they shouldn’t really ask you. Smile inside and be confident. Tell them something like: I can try too hard sometimes- being a bit of a perfectionist can mean that I take all the time necessary to succeed
